Where to Rent a Camper Van in Galicia

Explore the Atlantic coast, the Rías Baixas and the forests of inland Galicia in a premium camper van. Pick-up in Negreira, a short drive from Santiago de Compostela, and your dog is welcome on board.

If you are looking for a camper van rental in Galicia, you have chosen one of the most rewarding corners of Spain to explore by road. In a relatively short distance you can go from wild Atlantic beaches and lighthouses to ancient forests, river valleys and fishing villages where life still revolves around the harbour.

Renting a camper means you decide where to sleep, where to stop for lunch and when to change plans. It is the best way to discover Galicia at your own pace, and it is especially practical if you travel with a dog.

Where to go: four routes from Negreira

Negreira is a practical base. In a single morning you can head west to the coast, east to Santiago and the Rías Baixas, or into the green interior. Here are four routes to inspire your trip.

1. The Costa da Morte: lighthouses, beaches and the end of the world

The «Coast of Death» is one of the wildest stretches of Galicia. Stop at Carnota for its long beach and its famous giant granary (hórreo). Continue to Muxía, where a sanctuary stands on the rocks above the sea, and then to Fisterra, the traditional «end of the world» on the Camino. On the way, the Ézaro waterfall tumbles down almost into the Atlantic.

Eat: try percebes (goose barnacles), a Costa da Morte speciality, and fresh grilled fish in a harbour restaurant.

2. The Rías Baixas: Muros and the Albariño coast

The southern coast is more sheltered, with deep inlets called rías and sleepy fishing towns. Visit Muros, with its historic old town and its harbour, and enjoy the views around Louro. Pair the day with Albariño, the crisp white wine of the Rías Baixas.

Eat: pulpo a feira (octopus, Galician style) and a classic empanada gallega.

3. Forests, rivers and waterfalls: Fragas do Eume and the Tambre valley

Not everything has to happen by the sea. The Fragas do Eume is a protected natural area of ancient Atlantic woodland, ferns and mosses along the river Eume, ideal for an easy walk. Near our base, Ponte Maceira is a medieval bridge over the Tambre river, one of the most photographed spots in the area.

Eat: a warming bowl of caldo galego, the classic Galician soup, after a morning on the trails.

4. Santiago de Compostela and the Holy Year 2027

Santiago de Compostela is a short drive from our base. Next year, 2027, is a Xacobeo Holy Year, when the city welcomes even more pilgrims and visitors from around the world. The cathedral and the Praza do Obradoiro are the heart of the city, and the Camino routes arrive here from every direction.

Eat: tarta de Santiago, the almond cake that is the city’s emblem, with a coffee in one of the squares.

Inside the camper

Want to see the details before you book? Ask us on WhatsApp and we will send you more photos and information about the vehicle.

Where to sleep: camper areas and overnight stops

Not every car park is a camper area. Check the signs and local rules before spending the night, and where possible use designated camper areas. Our camper area map of Galicia helps you plan each stage, with water and waste disposal points where available.

Travelling with your dog

🐶 Your dog is part of the trip.

Dogs are welcome on board. Rules for beaches vary by place and season, so check local signs before you visit. Please keep your pet safely restrained while driving and return the camper clean. Read our full pet-friendly guide.

Tips for travellers from abroad

  • Allow more time than the map suggests. Coastal and mountain roads are often narrow and winding.
  • Galicia is green and changeable. Pack layers and a waterproof jacket, especially outside summer.
  • Book early for July and August, and for the Xacobeo 2027 Holy Year.
  • Spanish is the main language, and English is less common in small villages. A translation app is handy.

How to book

  • Send us your dates and the number of travellers, and tell us if you are bringing a dog.
  • Choose your routes, or ask us for suggestions based on your interests.
  • Pick up in Negreira and start your trip.

If you’re looking for a pet-friendly camper van rental in Santiago de Compostela or A Coruña, you probably already know that travelling with a dog completely changes the way you plan a holiday. Finding accommodation that accepts pets isn’t enough: you need the freedom to change your route, places where you can enjoy nature together, and a comfortable vehicle to spend several days on the road.

Pet-friendly routes for discovering Galicia by camper

One of the great advantages of travelling by camper is that you don’t need to choose a single destination. Galicia lets you combine coast, mountains, villages, gastronomy and nature on relatively short routes.

Costa da Morte: beaches, lighthouses and magnificent scenery

If you’re travelling with a dog, the Costa da Morte is one of the areas worth including in your plans. Carnota, Fisterra, Muxía, Ézaro and the small fishing villages offer a landscape very different from the big cities.

Check out our Costa da Morte route to explore this journey in more detail.

📍 Fisterra View on Maps

📍 Ézaro Waterfall (Fervenza do Ézaro) View on Maps

Forests, rivers and waterfalls

Galicia is also a fantastic destination for those who prefer walking through the forest to spending the whole day on the beach.

One of the best-known options is the Fragas do Eume, while in the area around our base you can discover the Tambre river and Ponte Maceira.

📍 Fragas do Eume View on Maps

Negreira and the Tambre valley

Not all of your trip has to take place by the sea. The area around Negreira lets you discover small villages, rivers, bridges, heritage and gastronomy before or after setting off towards the coast.

Planning your nights on the road

Travelling by camper also means knowing where to stop. Not every beach car park is a camper area, and conditions can change from one municipality to another.

That’s why we’ve created our map of motorhome and camper areas in Galicia , where you can check different spots across the region.

Among the areas featured in our guide are Negreira, Muros and Carnota.

Beaches and nature: travelling with a dog takes planning

Galicia has a huge number of beaches and natural spaces, but that doesn’t mean they all follow the same pet rules throughout the year.

Some beaches may allow dogs on certain dates or in certain areas, while others set restrictions during the bathing season.

🏖️

Carnota

A vast coastal space where you can combine walks, nature and Atlantic scenery. Always check current restrictions before visiting with your pet.

🌊

Louro and Muros

A perfect area to combine beaches, mountains, gastronomy and a stroll through one of the best-known fishing towns in this part of Galicia.

💦

Ézaro

Waterfall, river, mountains and coastline in a single setting. A particularly interesting stop for a short family excursion.

🌅

Fisterra

A classic destination for ending the day facing the Atlantic and enjoying the Costa da Morte scenery.

Where can you sleep in a camper when travelling with a dog?

This is one of the most important questions to answer before starting any camper trip.

At Nicracamper we clearly distinguish between parking, overnight stays and camping. We don’t recommend setting up on any beach or natural area without first checking the relevant regulations.

To help you, we’ve prepared a map of camper areas in Galicia with spots where you can plan your stages and manage services such as water and waste disposal, where available.

🅿️ Important tip:

Before spending the night at any location, check the signs and municipal rules. Protected natural areas may have additional restrictions.

🐾 Rules for travelling with a dog in our camper

We want travelling with a pet to be easy, but we also need to look after the vehicle so that the next traveller finds it in perfect condition.

  • While driving, your pet must travel safely and be properly restrained.
  • Keep the animal out of the front cab seats and any areas where it could cause damage.
  • After a day at the beach or in the mountains, try to prevent sand, mud or water from damaging the interior.
  • Don’t leave your pet unsupervised if there is a risk of damage to furniture, insect screens or other fittings.
  • The camper must be returned clean and in suitable hygienic condition.
