Where to Rent a Camper Van in Galicia

Explore the Atlantic coast, the Rías Baixas and the forests of inland Galicia in a premium camper van. Pick-up in Negreira, a short drive from Santiago de Compostela, and your dog is welcome on board.

If you are looking for a camper van rental in Galicia, you have chosen one of the most rewarding corners of Spain to explore by road. In a relatively short distance you can go from wild Atlantic beaches and lighthouses to ancient forests, river valleys and fishing villages where life still revolves around the harbour.

Renting a camper means you decide where to sleep, where to stop for lunch and when to change plans. It is the best way to discover Galicia at your own pace, and it is especially practical if you travel with a dog.

Where to go: four routes from Negreira

Negreira is a practical base. In a single morning you can head west to the coast, east to Santiago and the Rías Baixas, or into the green interior. Here are four routes to inspire your trip.

1. The Costa da Morte: lighthouses, beaches and the end of the world

The «Coast of Death» is one of the wildest stretches of Galicia. Stop at Carnota for its long beach and its famous giant granary (hórreo). Continue to Muxía, where a sanctuary stands on the rocks above the sea, and then to Fisterra, the traditional «end of the world» on the Camino. On the way, the Ézaro waterfall tumbles down almost into the Atlantic.

Eat: try percebes (goose barnacles), a Costa da Morte speciality, and fresh grilled fish in a harbour restaurant.

2. The Rías Baixas: Muros and the Albariño coast

The southern coast is more sheltered, with deep inlets called rías and sleepy fishing towns. Visit Muros, with its historic old town and its harbour, and enjoy the views around Louro. Pair the day with Albariño, the crisp white wine of the Rías Baixas.

Eat: pulpo a feira (octopus, Galician style) and a classic empanada gallega.

3. Forests, rivers and waterfalls: Fragas do Eume and the Tambre valley

Not everything has to happen by the sea. The Fragas do Eume is a protected natural area of ancient Atlantic woodland, ferns and mosses along the river Eume, ideal for an easy walk. Near our base, Ponte Maceira is a medieval bridge over the Tambre river, one of the most photographed spots in the area.

Eat: a warming bowl of caldo galego, the classic Galician soup, after a morning on the trails.

4. Santiago de Compostela and the Holy Year 2027

Santiago de Compostela is a short drive from our base. Next year, 2027, is a Xacobeo Holy Year, when the city welcomes even more pilgrims and visitors from around the world. The cathedral and the Praza do Obradoiro are the heart of the city, and the Camino routes arrive here from every direction.

Eat: tarta de Santiago, the almond cake that is the city’s emblem, with a coffee in one of the squares.

Where to sleep: camper areas and overnight stops

Not every car park is a camper area. Check the signs and local rules before spending the night, and where possible use designated camper areas. Our camper area map of Galicia helps you plan each stage, with water and waste disposal points where available.

Travelling with your dog

🐶 Your dog is part of the trip.

Dogs are welcome on board. Rules for beaches vary by place and season, so check local signs before you visit. Please keep your pet safely restrained while driving and return the camper clean. Read our full pet-friendly guide.

Tips for travellers from abroad

  • Allow more time than the map suggests. Coastal and mountain roads are often narrow and winding.
  • Galicia is green and changeable. Pack layers and a waterproof jacket, especially outside summer.
  • Book early for July and August, and for the Xacobeo 2027 Holy Year.
  • Spanish is the main language, and English is less common in small villages. A translation app is handy.

How to book

  • Send us your dates and the number of travellers, and tell us if you are bringing a dog.
